Our Vision and Values
The Taproot is the first root to emerge from the softened edges of the seed, and the root from which all other roots radiate. In a world that all too often fears and uproots the sacred connection of seed to earth, we seek to create and foster space(s) that honors and cares for the delicate work of emergence, connection, and restoration. Taproot Sanctuary is both a place where we practice right-relationship with ourselves, the earth and our neighbors, but also an invitation to cultivate that relationship with each moment. All of who you are is welcome here.
Our Vision: co-create a more just and compassionate world through connecting and supporting our neighbors, living in direct relationship to that which sustains us, creating beauty, sharing abundantly, growing our own food, and living in alignment with nature, our inner voice and calling in the world, in the context of our community’s needs (ancestral, present, and future). We are practicing living in right relationship with ourselves, the earth, and our neighbors in Waawiiyatanong/Detroit
Our Roots
Our taproot begins with this land and our ancestors. The skills, tools, and resources that we have learned come from those who came before us. Some of our teachers are Grace Lee Boggs, Carol Yamaski, Valerie Brown, cedar, Hawaii, Gloria Rivera, Parker Palmer, water, Kodo, Elandria Williams, Vandana Shiva, and many more
Our Values
Soil: alignment with nature’s rhythm
Soul: resting and co-creating practices that grow our souls
Society: learning & sharing tools to build to grow a just and compassionate world

Our Commitment
We live and work in community by partnering with others to create spaces for healing, resilience, and restoration. We share that which we have been given at our physical location as an urban retreat center/community gathering space and we can bring our workshops, retreats, and services, woodworking, and garden creations to you.
